It scans your Mac and shows you how much space various file categories thake away. You can take action by deleting entire sections such as your cache or old iOS files. Today we explored the topic of Normals, which are basically a game equivalent of bump mapping. Unlike bump maps, normal maps use red, green and blue colour ranges to determine the direction of the pixel normals. Both go into the Bump Map channel in maya.
Normal maps are a bit difficult to draw yourself, because they respond so directly with each shade of each colour. As a result, we have to use computer program to create accurate normal maps. I then went on to continue modelling my 1970s scene. I modelled a 1970s chair that I mimicked from a 1970s Ikea catalogue that I found online. Modelling this chair, however, was surprisingly difficult, because it consists of a lot of curves. I wanted to model this chair correctly, so I tried to create it by extruding along a curve, but this turned out to be more difficult than I thought it would be, but I figured it out after some time. Then the issue of UVing this model arose, but again I worked on it for a while and it became clear.I then attempted to add a normal map, that I created in Crazy Bump to the surface, o bring out the buttons and seems in the cushions of the chair, as well as the grain in the wooden rear. Crazy Bump produced a relatively good result, but I am looking forward to testing nDo in college on Monday where I can hopefully get a slightly better result.
I then went on to model a 1970s lampshade, based on online references. I again used a normal map to bring out some of the detail in the texture, as well as a specular and colour map.
Because of the objects shape, it has quite a lot of polygons, but they are all essential, in my opinion, to receive a believable shape that isn’t too faceted. I then went on to model a bare bulb that would fit into this lampshade, and texture it using alphas to add transparency. I added two intersecting planes to the inside of the bulb to create the illusion of geometry in the filament area of the bulb. Xnormals For Mac OsSummary:
We learned how to create normal maps in xNormal and nDo. While nDo is a but difficult to use, its power is incredible, and I will definitely be putting the time into learning it because its results are so great. I also modelled a few assets for my scene.
